Random Photo Screensaver information

The random photo screensaver moved to abScreensavers. I recommend downloading the new 3.0 version for the best animated photo slideshow screensaver.

Alternatively you can download the old one from this page.

I've made own version of a screensaver which displayed random photographs from a folder you can specify on your computer. I made it for a couple of reasons, the main ones are that the default Windows screensaver showed all files and folders which have the system attribute hidden. I organise my digital pictures in such a way that I keep all my pictures, but hide the ones I don't like. I also missed being able to see the filenames of my photographs. This screensaver solved all my problems.

Please note: this screensaver is written for and tested on Windows XP only. Use at your own risk in any other Windows version.

The Random Photo Screensaver has the following features:

  • It randomly displays photographs as your screensaver in an interval you can set yourself.
  • It can set a random new background wallpaper each time the screensaver is run or daily if you prefer.
  • Didn't see a photograph properly? You can browse back and forwards using the arrow keys.
  • You can see the name of the image in the top left corner. Just in case you can't remember where you took it. In version 2.1 you can also disable this option.
  • View a clock with the current time or screensaver running time to tell how long you've been away from your computer. The clock can be disabled.
  • It doesn't show any photographs from folders or images which are hidden.
  • You can exclude any subfolders such as thumbnail folders.
  • You can add any photograph or image to the screensaver. As long as it's an jpg or jpeg it should work.
  • It comes with complete installer and uninstaller.
  • Default all photos are displayed full screen. You can now disable this for small photos.

Known Issues & ToDo list

The following items are currently on my ToDo list:
  • Add transition effects
  • Implement support for multiple monitors
The screensaver doesn't work on an extended desktop using two (or more) screens. I'm aware of the problem, unfortunately I only have one screen on my PC and I can not test multiple screens. I'm looking to get a PC with two screens in the near future and I'll try to investigate the possibilities to fix the screensaver.
Since I'm busy working on other projects I do not know when these items will be implemented. You can add your email address to the Random Photo Screensaver newsletter and you'll receive an email when an update is released.
